Katlyn Kotila
Hi, I’m Katlyn Kotila, and my mission is to empower young people to embrace their worth and create meaningful change in their communities.
My story began with the loss of a dear friend whose kindness and light inspired me to fight for a world in which no one gets left behind. That experience shaped The Legacy Effect, my platform to support youth from all walks of life—especially those facing systemic barriers—so they can break through challenges and lead meaningful change in their communities.
Since 2018, I’ve shared my story with over 100 audiences, empowering more than 10,000 people to forge their own paths and create impactful legacies. As a 2023 Women of Inspiration Award Winner in the “Advocate & Catalyst for Change” category, I’ve been recognized for my work in mental health advocacy and community leadership.
In 2024, I launched the Legacy of Empowerment Scholarship to turn this vision into reality. This scholarship is a way to give young dreamers and changemakers the tools they need to achieve their dreams and leave their own legacy.
I believe we each have the power to inspire, uplift, and leave the world better than we found it. My work is a testament to the idea that no dream is too small to spark change. Together, we can create a ripple effect of impact, one legacy at a time.

Inspiration
I believe every individual has the power to make a difference. My mission is to inspire young people to embrace their worth, dream boldly, and create positive change in their communities.
This journey began with a deeply personal story—a story of loss, hope, and transformation.
Ten years ago, I lost a dear friend whose kindness and vibrant spirit touched everyone she met. She didn’t get to see the profound impact she had on those around her, but her passing left a void in our hearts. Yet, her life became a powerful reminder: every person has the potential to leave a legacy, no matter how small or quiet their actions might seem.
Her story sparked a mission—a commitment to ensure no one feels invisible and that every young dreamer knows their ideas can create real change. This mission became The Legacy Effect.
What We Do
Through workshops, presentations, and initiatives, The Legacy Effect empowers youth to recognize their value and realize their dreams. It doesn’t stop at inspiration—we provide tangible support to turn those dreams into action.
In December 2024, we launched the Legacy of Empowerment Scholarship. This scholarship gives young Canadians the resources, mentorship, and funding they need to break barriers and lead community-driven projects. From addressing food insecurity to building mental health resources, the scholarship helps changemakers take the first steps in creating a better world.
